New Mexico women Valerie Allen and Sandy Ricci combine personalized service with big business expertise at Moss Adams in Albuquerque. Former accounting firm Neff + Ricci has joined forces with the national firm of Moss Adams to create a stronger and more robust accounting practice. The firm, largest in the state, specializes in accounting, tax, and consulting services to public and private middle- market enterprises for all the major industries in Albuquerque and on the West Coast.

Most of the Albuquerque office’s 4,000 clients are closely held or family businesses. Areas of concentration are quite diverse, including auto dealerships, construction, health care, financial institutions, retail and wholesale, casinos, not-for-profit organizations, employee benefits, manufacturing and distribution, high tech, governmental entities, litigation support, and business valuation. Moss Adams also provides monthly accounting services for entrepreneurs who love doing business, but don’t like the bookkeeping aspect.

CPA’s Sandy and Valerie agreed to spend some time with New Mexico WOMAN to discuss the combination and what it will mean for current and future clients.

Last month we asked for our readers’ votes for their favorite places to shop, to dine, personalities they liked best in entertainment and broadcasting, and for businesses providing great products or service. The nominations poured in by fax, through the mail, and from our Web site. The response was overwhelming.

Here are your favorites—for dining, health and beauty, entertainers, and shopping. Some of the choices were anticipated, some businesses are new to us. Congratulations and continued success to all of the businesses listed here. You are special, and our staff and our readers truly appreciate you.

This has been fun, and we plan to do it again. Thank you all for participating.

Winner of a total make-over from Mark Pardo: An Aveda Lifestyle Salon/Day Spa Hair cut/color/style, facial, makeup application, manicure, and pedicure valued at $360 is Julie Epling.

Welcome back to New Mexico WOMAN ’s behind the scenes look at the state’s growing film industry. I had the privilege of hanging out on the set of “Transformers, The Movie” last month on Holloman Air Force Base. As a result, I gleaned useful information for women who may never have dreamed of the opportunities in film careers that exist right in their own back yards.

New Mexico ’s rich history in filmmaking began around 1915 with silent westerns starring Tom Mix. Las Vegas, New Mexico has been the backdrop for many memorable movies, including “Easy Rider” (1969), “Convoy” (1978), and “Red Dawn” (1984). Other movies where you may have recognized our familiar landscape are “Tank Girl” and “Blackhawk Down.” According to the New Mexico Film Commission Web site, New Mexico has been the location of choice for more than 40 films since 2002. The blooming new industry has purportedly added $500 million to the economy, and the buzz about Hollywood’s love affair with the Land of Enchantment is growing louder from one year to the next.
