 If you drive by Carlisle and Anderson Southeast, you’ll probably drive right past a small, dull colored, unmarked building that once housed a Piggly Wiggly, a Safeway, and a church. You probably would never think that this building currently houses a story of great personal success and tragedy, as well as a growing business with 2007 sales reaching more than $7 million.
It all started in an officer’s club in Enid, Oklahoma. Barbara Brennan, on a date with another man, noticed Albuquerque native Don, who was in town for flight training. Don and Barbara married soon after and moved to Washington, D.C., where Don pursued his law career and worked for Pete Domenici. “My whole life changed in 1963,” says Barbara.

This is the fifteenth year New Mexico WOMAN has honored top women in business for their efforts, leadership, insights, hard work, and their desire to succeed. Every year New Mexico WOMAN features the Top 25 women-owned businesses in New Mexico and hosts an awards luncheon for these women, which is open to the public. About 500 people attend to meet, greet, and congratulate these magnificent women.
New Mexico WOMAN determines the Top 25 by compiling a list from submitted entries and choosing the 25 with the highest gross revenues ending September 20, 2007, that are also “women-owned,” which is defined by at least 51 percent women-owned and managed.
