Weaving Threads of the Past Into New Mexico’s Future
By Laurie Volkin

Through the nonprofit organization, local fiber artists are learning how to turn their creative art into a business.

It wasn’t an easy road to get the organization to this point. Getting lost in an area where taxis fear to tread was only one of several misadventures during that trip. Unaware of the disparity between U.S. and Beijing hotel prices, Rosanne had selected a price range that put her in a substandard hotel in a questionable area of town. (You’d think someone at the United Nations would have warned her.) And she encountered men with machine guns in the room where she was to give her speech. Reflecting on this situation more than 10 years later, Rosanne muses, “I learned so much about myself. I became a world citizen there.”
